At Plexure, we are committed to empowering our employees and cultivating an awesome company culture. For the Plexure Employee Spotlight series, we’re putting the spotlight on those at Plexure who are living out that #Plexurelife.
This month, we're shining a light on David Malpas, Plexure's Head of Product based in the Auckland, NZ Head Office.
Tell us about your role at Plexure and what you enjoy about it?
I am the head of product here at Plexure, a role that lets me work across the organisation – leading a very capable product management team as well as collaborating with colleagues from our customer, sales, marketing and engineering teams.
I love seeing ideas come to life. What might start as an idea born out of a conversation with a customer is then added to a product roadmap, explored by the product discovery team and then built by the engineering team.
Finally, the idea has become a new feature and is released to customers – including the one that was the genesis of the work. I find the whole process extremely satisfying and love being part of it.
Why did you decide to join Plexure?
The opportunity to help shape the next great NZ tech success story was too good to turn down!
I had done my research and understood that the company is in a good financial position and was looking to invest back into scaling the business.
In your time at Plexure what’s something you’ve achieved/accomplished that you’re most proud of?
In my short time at Plexure I have spent a lot of time working with the team to refine our product vision.
Our approach has been to talk to our customers and also colleagues to get their perspective. We then connect our company vision and strategy to the work that the teams do.
Now that this is complete, we have started sharing the refreshed product vision across the entire business.
I’m immensely proud of the vision we have co-created, it’s customer-centric and sets a clear direction for the product outcomes we will deliver over the near and medium term.
What is the most memorable event/activity that comes to mind whilst you’ve been here?
Not long after I joined the company, we celebrated ticking over 200 million end-users on the Plexure Platform. This was memorable for me because it reinforced the scale that Plexure was operating at and the reasons I joined the company. We’re now well on our way towards 300 million users – and I can only imagine how we’ll celebrate meeting that milestone.
What can we find you doing outside of work?
I have three children between five and eleven and as such I don’t seem to have any hobbies of my own anymore. Instead, I project my interests (football/soccer and music) onto my unsuspecting offspring.
What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?
My parents were missionaries and I spent some of my formative years in the highlands of Papua New Guinea – a place that I’d love to return to someday.
