Meet Jacques Lourens - Commercial Manager, Plexure

Published on April 6, 2021

At Plexure, we’re big believers in the power of community and we are committed to cultivating an amazing company culture. For the Plexure Employee Spotlight series, we’re putting the spotlight on those at Plexure who are living out that #Plexurelife.

Jacques is the Commercial Manager based in the Auckland, NZ Head Office. When he’s not crunching numbers, you can typically find him pursuing various outdoor adventures including spear fishing, scuba diving, ocean swimming, or mountain biking. Or if he’s already ticked those things off the list – chilling with a beer!

Tell us about your role at Plexure and what you enjoy about it?

I look after the commercial analysis for Plexure, and applying that lens across business decision making, including pricing for new and existing customer contracts, as well as newly developed products. This includes market and competitor analysis and identifying market trends, so there’s a research element to the role.

I also bring commercial visibility to areas of the business. Ensuring we deliver products and projects to our customers that are financially viable.

I enjoy the role because it involves constant improvement and process, identifying opportunities and making decisions that improve the financial health of the business.

Why did you decide to join Plexure?

The company seemed like it was in quite an exciting growth phase. I wanted to change industries going from the tail end of innovative spectrum to the front. And I wanted to work in a business that was leading in the innovation space and in an industry that focused on Artificial Intelligence (Ai) and Machine Learning (ML).

In your time at Plexure, what’s something you’ve achieved/accomplished that you’re most proud of?

In terms of operations, a lot of small incremental improvements to help the business. It’s a long process but really rewarding when you tie things off at the end.

What is the most memorable event/activity that comes to mind whilst you’ve been here?

It’s hard to call out one as they are all good but the fact that people aren’t in a hurry to get home on a Friday, happy to chat about things outside of work over a beer. Plexure also throws a mean party.

What can we find you doing outside of work? what hobbies do you have?

Miscellaneous outdoor adventures including spear fishing, scuba diving, ocean swimming, and mountain biking. Topped off with a nice cold beer.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?

The longest I’ve held my breath was 3 mins 15 seconds. I’ve done a freediving training course, and I’m a PADI (professional association of diver instructors).
